All J-1 students are required to report and maintain a local U.S. address with the Department of Homeland Security through SEVIS within 10 days of arrival for new students and within 10 days of any address change throughout your time here in the U.S. This must be your local residential address; campus departmental addresses, P.O. Boxes, and foreign address are not acceptable addresses for immigration purposes.
How to update your address:
Current Students
Update your local address in SIS by logging into SIS self-service with your JHED ID and password.* Local address updates will automatically be sent to OIS so there is no need to report your new address directly to OIS.
*School of Medicine students can update their local address using the school’s self service portal.
Students on Post-Completion Academic Training
If you are no longer able to update your address in SIS, send an email with your updated local address to [email protected] with ADDRESS CHANGE as the subject line.
Upon receipt of any address change the OIS will update your record in SEVIS which fulfills your address reporting requirement to the U.S. Department of State. Failure to report local address changes in a timely manner can jeopardize your J-1 status.
