Academic Training (AT) Session for J-1 Students

International students in J-1 status are eligible to request off-campus employment and training authorization through a provision called “Academic Training”. Workshop participants will be educated on what Academic Training is, how it can be used by international students, and what steps are involved in requesting Academic Training authorization at Johns Hopkins University. Curricular Practical Training (CPT) Session for F-1 Students

International students use CPT as a mechanism to gain authorization for off-campus internships, practicums, and jobs opportunities while studying in their academic programs at JHU. Participants of this workshop will understand the eligibility requirements for CPT, deadlines to apply for CPT, necessary steps for CPT approval, and consequences of failing to abide by CPT policies. International Student Essentials

Optional Practical Training (OPT) Session for F-1 Students

Optional Practical Training (OPT) is a 12-month work authorization allowing international students to remain in the United States and work immediately after program completion.  Participants of this workshop will understand the eligibility requirements for OPT, deadlines to apply for OPT, necessary steps for OPT application, and reporting requirements for students once they are in their post-completion OPT period. Post-Arrival Information Session for International Students

This session is for new students (with a Spring 2025 program start date) who still have lingering questions about immigration and cultural matters, or who are struggling to identify needed support services from the university or their schools. To register for the session, click on the date below:


STEM OPT Extension Application Session for F-1 Students

The STEM Extension is a 24-month extension of the post-completion Optional Practical Training (OPT) work authorization for international students. Participants of this workshop will understand the eligibility requirements for a STEM Extension, employment requirements on a STEM Extension, necessary steps for a STEM Extension application, and tips for filing a STEM Extension application. STEM OPT Extension Reporting Session for F-1 Students

Students on the STEM Extension have several reporting requirements throughout the 24-month period, more than are required during the post-completion OPT period. Participants of this workshop will understand all STEM Extension reporting requirements. Specifically, we will address 6-month validity reports, 12-month and Final Evaluations on the Form I-983, and how to report materials changes to the Office of International Services at Johns Hopkins University while on a STEM Extension. Travel Workshop for J-1 Exchange Visitors

This presentation is designed to assist JHU-Sponsored J-1 Exchange Visitors in preparing for travel abroad while in J-1 status, including information about departure and re-entry to the U.S., required travel documentation, obtaining a new J-1 visa at the U.S. Consulate abroad, and a review of other travel-related considerations while in J-1 status. Travel Workshop for F-1 and J-1 Students
