All F-1 students are required to report and maintain a local U.S. address with the Department of Homeland Security through SEVIS within 10 days of arrival for new students and within 10 days of any address change throughout your time here in the U.S. This must be your local residential address; campus departmental addresses, P.O. Boxes, and foreign addresses are not acceptable addresses for immigration purposes.

How to update your Address:

Current Students

Update your local address in SIS by logging into SIS self-service with your JHED ID and password.*  Local address updates will automatically be sent to OIS so there is no need to report your new address directly to OIS.

*School of Medicine students can update their local address using the school’s self service portal.

Students on Post-Completion OPT or STEM Extension

If you are no longer able to update your address in SIS, you should report your new address within 10 business days through iHopkins. Students on post-completion OPT can report their new address by submitting “OPT Reporting Form” and students on STEM extension can report their new address by submitting “STEM OPT Reporting Form.”

OIS will update your record in SEVIS within 10 business days of receiving your submission in iHopkins, which fulfills your address reporting requirement to the Department of Homeland Security. Failure to report local address changes in a timely manner can jeopardize your F-1 status.
